Family Philanthropy
Parents Dana and Greg Lee have established a generous endowment to the university. When their daughter graduates, she will have the opportunity to direct this support to a meaningful area of campus through the Gaucho Family Legacy Program.
An Important Place
When Frederick Charles Hock Jr., father of three Gauchos, passed away in 2022 at age 83, he left an estate gift to the university that shaped his children’s lives. The generosity of the Hock family established the first unrestricted endowment at UC Santa Barbara.
Unbroken Lines
A prolific writer who sought to understand the world, Garren’s legacy will continue through the M. Garren Tinney Memorial Fund. Garren’s mother, Donna “Dee Dee” Tinney, established this fund to support three writing awards in his memory.
We are happy to help support UC Santa Barbara to show our appreciation for what it’s done for our daughter, Katie. Institutions that do good can’t be taken for granted.

Parent Giving Opportunities
Whether you support general campus priorities or a particular academic area or program your gift of any amount will make a difference. Your gift will support student success through undergraduate exploration, expanded student opportunities, attracting and retaining top scholars and teachers, and enhancing a strong learning community.
Parent Leadership Circle - $10,000
The Parent Leadership Circle encompasses the premier group of parent donors to UC Santa Barbara. The Circle increases the profile of parents as investors in the campus and ambassadors for the University of California. Through special recognition and unique programming, the Circle provides this community of parent donors an active role in the University while their children are students and beyond.
Parents Fund Champions - $5,000
Parents Fund Champions provides leadership funding for any area on campus. Champions receive tailored benefits and special invitations to campus and regional events. We look to our Champions to be advocates for UC Santa Barbara with their friends and in their community. Champions participate in specialized campus visits and events.
Parents Fund Partners - $2,500
Parents Fund Partners provide both unrestricted and restricted gifts to UC Santa Barbara for funding of top priorities. Partners receive invites to campus events providing them with critical information on student academic success and enrichment opportunities. Partners are also encouraged to be community parent ambassadors, strengthening ties between UC Santa Barbara families, their students and the university.
Gaucho Family Legacy Program
The Gaucho Family Legacy Program allows parents and family members to establish an endowment during your student’s time at UC Santa Barbara. Your student can be involved in the process by helping select the area your gift will support at UC Santa Barbara. Philanthropic gifts can make an impact on the student experience, your student’s major department, research labs, student scholarships, or many other areas. Connect with us to explore how your family can endow a bright future for UC Santa Barbara and our students!
How It Works
- Start your family's legacy endowment through a one-time gift or pledge (payable up to five years). Gaucho Family Legacy funds begin at a commitment of $50,000. The fund will provide an annual payout each year once it is fully funded.
- Honor your student by naming the fund after them, your family, or another name of your choice.
- Receive an annual report about the impact your fund is making at UC Santa Barbara.
