Center for Black Studies Research

The Center for Black Studies Research promotes scholarship that provides a critical synthesis of issues of race, equity, and justice, in addition to STEM, through interdisciplinary publications, conferences, colloquia, community programs, and activism. While the Center encourages a broad range of scholarship, projects encourage in-depth research in the following areas: Broadening Participation in STEM, Race and the Politics of Space, Black Radical Tradition,  Engaged Scholarship, Intersectional Justice, and Student Engagement and Enrichment in Data Science. SEEDS is an interdisciplinary vision of computing research that bridges Black Studies, Chicano Studies, Statistics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Neuroscience, Environmental Science, Anthropology, Engineering, Computer Science, UCSB Library and Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises to create a new and student-driven foundation through a data science living and learning community for understanding issues of personal significance through a diverse lens. Gifts to the Center support interdisciplinary research and university-campus engagement.
