The Polycystic Kidney Disease Research Fund supports basic, translational and clinical research on polycystic kidney disease (PKD) directed by UC Santa Barbara Professor Thomas Weimbs. PKD is a very common, life-threatening genetic disease that leads to kidney failure. Research in the Weimbs Lab has already led to new mechanistic insights into the pathogenesis of PKD and the development of new therapies that have proven effective in animal models of the disease. Gifts to the Fund help to accelerate the progress of PKD research, with the goal to translate laboratory findings into clinical practice as soon as possible.
