Managed by UC Santa Barbara’s Cheadle Center for Biodiversity & Ecological Restoration, North Campus Open Space (NCOS) represents an unprecedented turning back of the clock for over 100 acres of historic wetlands and native habitats through the extensive restoration of the former upper arms of Devereux Slough. With its public trail system, it is a celebrated community amenity, and given its location and affiliation with UC Santa Barbara, it is also a living laboratory providing dynamic research opportunities that help us better understand the positive impacts of restoration on native habitats, endemic species, and the climate. Gifts to the NCOS Restoration Fund will be used for the long-term management of the site, to support public access, to enhance our natural heritage, and to expand educational programming and student research experiences.
