Feminist Studies is an interdisciplinary field with subject matter that produces cutting-edge research and fosters innovative teaching. Research and teaching focus on the ways in which relations of gender intersect with race, class, ethnicity, sexuality, nation, ability, and other differences to affect every aspect of society. This Department began as the Women's Studies Program in 1988 when feminist professors came together to focus on gender, race, class, sexualities, and nationalities from intersectional and transnational perspectives. Gifts to the Department of Feminist Studies provide student and programmatic support for multifaceted curriculum that invites students to deepen their understanding of diverse women's lives, cultures, and histories in the United States and around the globe.
