UC Santa Barbara's Department of Sociology is recognized worldwide for its cutting-edge research, multi-perspective approach, leadership in emerging areas of study, and innovative approaches to the discipline. Faculty in the Department are among the best in the world in the study of gender, sexualities, and feminism, culture, global studies, race and ethnicity, Latino/Latina sociology, social movements, ethnomethodology and conversational analysis, justice, law, and inequalities, environmental justice, networks, quantitative and qualitative methods, and sociological theory. Gifts to the Chair's Fund for Excellence supports sociological research and teaching, and enhances the intellectual life of the Department, consisting of 33 faculty, 95 graduate and 1,200 undergraduate students.
